A user friendly feature of the M&P22 Compact is its disassembly system. While field striping, cleaning and routine maintenance are not near as easy as on a standard M&P center-fire pistol. An ambidextrous thumb activated manual safety blocks the striker and prevents discharge until the shooter depresses the extended lever, allowing the trigger to then move rearward. Unlike most rim-fire pistols, the design incorporates a Picatinny accessory rail for adding tactical accessories such as flashlights or lasers. The gun has a sleek, lightweight, contoured, aluminum alloy slide that provides secure loading or unloading. The barrel and slide are made of stainless steel that’s coated with a durable black hard coat anodized finish. The two compact 10- round magazines provided are made of genuine steel. A set of Novak style white outline sights sit on top of the slide, are highly visible, easy to use and track reasonably well.
